The role we're filling

Yellowstone Landscape's Tree Care Division is looking for an experienced tree care sales professional to work as a Business Development Manager in Chicago, IL. This isn't a desk job. You'll be the person who connects Yellowstone with potential clients ; by listening, consulting, and building relationships that last. It's a role for someone who knows trees and knows sales, and who wants to work for the largest privately owned commercial landscaping company in the country.

What you'll actually do day to day

  • Own all aspects of sales inside a defined territory ; selling, marketing, and customer service all land on your plate
  • Handle non selling tasks too: administration, production, and training
  • Communicate job expectations through on site meetings with arbor crews
  • Prospect for profitable arboricultural opportunities on a regular basis
  • Meet or exceed the sales expectations and goals set for your territory
  • Build strong, long lasting relationships with new and prospective clientele
  • Inspect trees, develop a tree inventory, and decide what action is needed
  • Carry out surveys and assess trees using specialist equipment
  • Prepare estimates for clients and potential customers
  • Create and help prepare specifications for trees, equipment, and contractual services for tree care programs
  • Maintain records and reports for the tree care maintenance program
  • Develop and update annual Plant Health Care Programs
  • Produce professionally written proposals and communications for both clients and internal use
  • Review specifications and contract documentation for each project
  • Adhere to the company's safety policies ; your safety and the safety of crew members and the public are non negotiable

What you need to bring

  • ISA Certification, or the ability to get certified within 2 years of starting at Yellowstone
  • A degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related field is preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in tree care
  • 2 to 3 years of sales experience ; tree care sales is highly preferred
  • Hands on knowledge of trees, insects, and diseases ; including the principles and practices of tree maintenance and arboriculture, and of pesticides and their application
  • Strong listening skills and real attention to detail
  • A clean driver's license
  • A strong sense of safety
  • Bright, energetic, and you work well with others
  • Superb professional communication ; both written and verbal
  • High motivation and excellent time management skills
