About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. It's for a mechanic, but you're working on the bigger stuff; moving vans and box trucks. The kind of vehicles small businesses and folks moving across town rely on. If you like turning wrenches and seeing a tangible result from your work, this could be a good fit.
The pay is $24 to $25 an hour to start. What you actually get depends on things like where you are, your skills, and your experience.
What you'd be doing
You'd be the B Tech, handling essential repairs and maintenance on a fleet of newer moving vans and box trucks. You'll have some independence, but there's support when you need it.
- Oil changes, fluid services, lubrication, and tire repairs.
- Brake work and suspension jobs.
- Warranty related repairs that match your skill level.
- Sometimes you'll help senior techs with more complex diagnostics; it's a chance to learn.
- And yeah, part of the job is driving these trucks on public roads to test them or verify a repair is solid.
The point is keeping these vehicles safe and reliable. When they're down, someone's business or move gets delayed. Your work prevents that.
The perks that come with it
- You get paid every other week. If you're in New York or Puerto Rico, it's weekly.
- Training on the job to build your skills and help you get more ASE certs.
- Paid time off is part of the package.
- Medical insurance and dental insurance are available.
- A flexible spending account option lets you set aside up to $270 tax free for transit or parking costs.
- There's a 401k plan for retirement.
- Employee discounts, including on car rentals and if you ever want to buy an Avis or Budget vehicle.
A quick note: some of these benefits depend on whether you're full time or part time and where exactly you're located.
What we need from you
This isn't an entry level lube tech spot. We need someone who knows their way around a shop. Here’s the list:
- A valid driver's license; Class A, B, or C works.
- A solid two years of professional auto repair experience under your belt.
- At least one ASE certification already. You'll need to get two more within your first year here.
- A working knowledge in common ASE areas: Engine Repair, Drivetrain/Axles, Suspension/Steering, Brakes, Electrical systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, Engine Performance…you get the idea. Light vehicle or diesel knowledge applies here too.
- The shop has moderate to loud noise levels; you should be comfortable in that environment all day.
- A complete set of tools. You need to bring your own for automotive repair and maintenance work.
