About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. I'm looking for an Automotive Technician to join the Torque by Ryder team in Charlotte, NC. This is a permanent, full time spot working on our light duty truck fleet.
The Work
You'll be the one keeping these trucks running right. That means doing everything from routine maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks to more complex diagnostics and repairs on engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and brakes.
- Diagnose and fix issues; you're not just swapping parts.
- Handle hydraulic brake inspections and replacements.
- Your base is a company provided mobile service vehicle. You'll drive it to customer yards in your area to do the work on site.
- You're the face of Torque/Ryder to our customers, so building that relationship matters.
- All your work orders and notes get logged electronically in Salesforce; it's part of the job.
- The role includes some environmental duties like site inspections and proper disposal of chemicals.
What You Need to Bring
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. So is a vocational or professional diploma. But here’s what really counts: you need at least four years of combined classroom training and hands on work experience under your belt.
- A valid state driver's license is required. A Non Commercial Class E license works, but a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A is definitely preferred.
- You've got to pass our tests: a Ryder drug test, a DOT physical, a Ryder road test, and a full background check with motor vehicle history. We also verify drug/alcohol history from your last three employers.
- This job requires driving Ryder vehicles. Some assignments might need extra screening based on customer requirements.
The Certifications & Training
There's a list of specific certifications you'll need to complete within set timeframes after you start. We provide the training for these:
- Preventive Maintenance (PM230 & PM298) within 90 days.
- Air Brakes (BA220 & BA298) within 90 days. You also need knowledge of FMCS 396.25 for brake mechanics/inspectors.
- Hydraulic Brakes (BH220 & BH298), where appropriate, within 90 days.
- Tire & Wheel (TW220) within 90 days.
- CF609 & A/C trained and qualified (AC220 & AC298) within 180 days.
- Battery Charge/Check and HD Electrical (DR208) within 90 days.
- SBTIII trained (SBT220) with SBT Phase 2 completed within 180 days for service island support.
- A minimum of two OEM online engine courses.
The Details & The Perks
The pay is $38.50 an hour, based on your experience. On top of that, there's a retention bonus: $2000 paid out every quarter during your first year with us. The schedule is flexible but totals 40 hours a week from Tuesday through Saturday; you get premium pay for weekend hours. A company cell phone and fuel card are provided. The service vehicle you'll work out of? That's provided too.
The benefits package kicks in pretty quick:
