Manufacturing Engineer

The Job

Mestek Machinery is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer. We're the folks behind Engel Industries, Iowa Precision, and Roto Die ; brands that have been building metal forming solutions for HVAC ductwork for decades. This role is based in Cedar Rapids, IA.

What You'll Actually Do

You'll own mechanical design work for new products, improvements to existing ones, and sustaining engineering. That means designing OEM systems and components from start to finish. You'll generate CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions.

• Source mechanical components and submit RFQs to vendors you've qualified.
• Identify performance issues on equipment, run root cause analysis, and propose fixes.
• Design components that go straight into production ; speed matters here.
• Join brainstorming and whiteboard sessions for new designs, and give honest feedback on designs from other team members.
• Work closely with a multi disciplinary team: mechanical, electrical, software, controls ; the whole crew.
• Adhere to and improve engineering processes across the organization.
• Handle projects that range from a few hours to several weeks or months.

What You Need to Bring

• A B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar role.
• Solid understanding of modern mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
• Hands on knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, and troubleshooting electro hydraulic machines.
• Efficient CAD skills ; you can design components quickly for immediate production.
• Ability to do design analysis: tolerance stack ups, component life cycle estimations.
• Skill with 3D CAD software. Autodesk Inventor is preferred, but we'll look at others.
• Comfortable interpreting machine designs from 2 D CAD methods.
• Experience with a Product Data Management system like Autodesk Vault or SolidWorks PDM.
• Willingness to take full ownership of projects.
• Motivation to help improve engineering procedures.

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

• Experience working in or around machine shops ; welding, milling, turning, sheet metal.
