About This Role
The Gig
Mestek Machinery designs and builds metal forming equipment for the HVAC duct industry. We're talking precision machinery for sheet metal ductwork and fittings. Our family of brands includes Lockformer, Engel, Iowa Precision, and Roto Die. A machinist here runs both manual and CNC machine tools ; lathes and milling machines ; to cut and produce precision parts for our machines, instruments, and tools. You'll control the machinery that sets the speed and cuts to create specific parts. You'll also handle basic maintenance on the machines and swap out dull or worn parts when needed.
What You'll Actually Do Day to Day
- Plan each day's machining by studying blueprints, engineering plans, and materials.
- Analyze the specs and figure out the best way to get the job done.
- Program CNC mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points.
- Monitor drilling, grooving, and cutting operations ; that includes turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing ; to hold specifications.
- Follow safety procedures and regulations to keep everything running safe.
- Do preventive maintenance on equipment to keep it in good shape.
- Keep continuity between shifts by documenting and communicating your actions in our internal electronic system.
- Work with engineers, production, and other folks to solve machining or assembly problems.
What You Need to Have
- Experience operating and programming CNC mills or lathes.
- Solid computer and technical skills.
- Can read blueprints.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver's license.
- Prior experience running CNC mills and lathes in a production environment.
The Physical Side of the Job
You'll be on your feet regularly. Frequently you'll walk, use your hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with your arms, and talk or hear. Occasionally you'll sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You need to be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds from time to time. Your vision should handle close work, distance, peripheral, and adjusting focus.
