Construction Supervisor

What you'll actually do here

You're the supervisor who keeps everything running smoothly at our client site in Buffalo, NY. You'll make sure every Security Officer and Lead Officer follows post orders, completes their rounds, and files the right reports. When something urgent happens, you're the one who contacts the proper authorities and the client.

You'll train your team on the details of their assignments and review post orders with them. You'll coach people when they need it and document those conversations. If someone isn't meeting expectations, you handle the discipline. You'll also help with payroll and personnel paperwork.

Part of your job is making sure every post is covered. You'll inspect posts on a regular schedule and meet with your team to outline what needs to get done. You'll sit down with client representatives too, either on a schedule or as needed, to confirm their security requirements are met and they're getting good service.

When company policy allows and the law permits, you'll interview and orient new hires, assign and direct work, appraise performance, handle complaints, and resolve problems. You might even recommend who gets hired or let go. And sometimes, you'll work a post yourself as a Security Officer if that's what's needed.

What you need to bring

• A valid, current NYS Security Guard Card. That's non negotiable.
• At least 2 consecutive years of verifiable supervisory experience. It's a hard requirement ; preferably in a setting similar to this one.
• A High School diploma or GED. A mix of 2 years of related experience plus education can also work, but the company makes that call.
• 2 years of retail experience is preferred, but not required.
• Any state, county, or municipal license needed to work as a Security Officer where you're assigned.
• You know security operations ; patrol, inspection, response services ; inside out.
• You understand how supervision works: practices, procedures, how to motivate people without being a jerk.
• You're comfortable with security devices and controls, and you learn new things quickly.
• You can follow instructions given in writing, spoken, or as a diagram.
• You're organized enough to track and maintain schedule assignments.
• You stay calm in unusual situations. You have a courteous phone manner.
• You adapt as sites and procedures change.
• You write routine correspondence ; logs, reports ; clearly.
• You're good with people. Clients, staff, the public ; you interact effectively across different social levels and cultures.

What the job demands physically and mentally

You'll need to keep your composure when dealing with authorities, executives, clients, and the public, even under pressure and urgency. You might face challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area ; that's not for everyone.

You'll direct and discipline staff in a positive, professional way. Overtime can happen without advance notice. You handle multiple tasks at once without losing track. There's keyboarding, basic computer work, and operating controls. You need to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate and report incidents.

Expect a lot of sitting, standing, and walking ; sometimes for long periods. That might include climbing stairs or walking on inclines and uneven terrain. You'll occasionally reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You'll lift and carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds now and then. Close vision is required.

Background and screening

You have to pass company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and a behavioral selection survey. Any mandatory licensing requirements also apply.
