
About This Role
What you'll be doing
You're joining the Plastic and Oral Surgery/Sedation team at Boston Children's Hospital to support our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. This is a clinical role with real variety. You'll see outpatient consults, provide IV conscious sedation, and assist in the OR as either a first or second assist.
On any given day, here's what that looks like:
- Administering IV conscious sedation in the office based setting ; including IV placement and peri-, intra-, and post procedural assessment and monitoring of patients
- Providing comprehensive healthcare to patients of all ages with all types of conditions
- Taking histories, performing exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies
- Instructing and counseling patients about their diagnosis
- Managing all aspects of pre operative and post operative care
- First or second assisting during surgery in the OR
- Facilitating appropriate referrals consistent with your supervising physician's scope of expertise
Schedule & location
The schedule is 40 hours per week. That breaks down to four 10 hour days, Monday through Friday. You'll split your time between Boston and Waltham. There's also a possibility you'll travel to other satellite locations as needed.
What you need to bring
Education:
- A Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program
Experience & knowledge:
- The theories, principles, and concepts you'd get from completing an accredited PA program (that's your baseline)
- The analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems using clinical or scientific principles ; this means cross functional experience based knowledge matters here
- A strong interest in Plastic & Oral Surgery is strongly preferred; understanding those disciplines goes a long way in this role
- Well developed writing skills plus solid communication to handle conflicting views or issues fairly are expected
