Physical Therapist

About This Role

What You'll Be Doing

You'll handle complex diagnostic evaluations for patients referred to our outpatient and multispecialty clinics in Boston, MA. That means verifying each referral is appropriate, and if something doesn't seem right, you'll contact the provider directly. You'll review each patient's medical history, then select and run both standardized and non standardized tests to figure out where they're at functionally ; across cardiopulmonary, developmental, musculoskeletal, neurological, and sensorimotor domains. You'll take all that data and weave it into clinical decisions and recommendations that actually make sense for the person in front of you.

From there, you design and carry out individualized treatment plans. You set clear goals, pick the right physical therapy procedures and modalities, and adjust as you go. You'll also prepare discharge plans and home programs so patients can keep progressing once they leave. Education is a big piece ; you'll teach patients and their families what's happening and why. You'll monitor outcomes, tweak programs when they're not working, and loop in physicians and other providers with your recommendations.

You'll recommend orthotics, adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and tech for patients with complex, rare, or multiple dysfunctions. That might mean working directly with equipment designers and vendors to nail down specs and meet patient needs. You'll train patients, families, and caretakers on how to use whatever equipment you've prescribed, track how well it's working, and make changes when it isn't. And of course, you'll document everything ; assessments, diagnoses, treatment notes ; according to our standards. You'll also prep reports, correspondence, and referral materials for schools, other providers, and payers.

Mentoring and Supervision

You'll keep your own skills sharp by staying involved with professional organizations, attending continuing ed, doing peer review, and tapping into internal and external resources. Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you'll serve as a clinical instructor in our departmental student externship program ; planning learning objectives, setting up clinical experiences, monitoring student performance, giving feedback, and doing evaluations.

You'll also supervise direct reports, including physical therapist I's, physical therapist assistants, and rehab aides. That means monitoring assignments, spotting areas for growth, providing instruction and feedback, and taking part in performance evaluations. You might also get involved with departmental training and staff development programs.
