About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this role. It's for an HR partner at FM, which is a property insurance company that's been around for about 200 years. They work with some of the biggest companies out there. This isn't a generalist role where you just push paperwork; you're the main HR point of contact for specific business segments. You'll need to understand their plans and strategies, then build and drive HR programs that actually fit what they're trying to do.
What you'd be doing
You'd be embedded as part of the management team for your assigned business areas. Your day to day involves the full spectrum of HR services.
- Develop those business partnerships first. Understand their goals, then create and implement tailored HR plans.
- Tackle organizational planning, performance management, and career path discussions.
- Counsel managers on complex employee relations issues to minimize risk.
- Investigate individual employee concerns and advise both staff and management on next steps.
- Interpret and apply HR policies, making sure they work for the business and our people.
- Partner with other HR teams to roll out corporate wide initiatives.
- You've got to stay on top of new HR trends and figure out if they could work here.
The specifics of the job
This is a full time position based in an office in Boston, MA. There's eligibility to work remotely one day per week. Travel is part of it; you'll need to go to other corporate locations in the US like Norwood, MA or Johnston, RI when needed. Overnight domestic travel is required. There's also a possibility of international travel down the line, depending on business needs.
What we need from you
A four year college degree is required, though a blend of education, experience, and skills might be considered instead. A graduate degree or equivalent experience is highly preferred.
The big one: we need at least ten years of solid HR experience. Again, a strong blend of other factors might be considered in place of hitting that exact mark.
The skills list is detailed because the work is complex. Here’s what matters:
- Excellent consulting and project management skills are non negotiable.
- Your verbal and written communication needs to be top tier.
- The same goes for customer service skills and overall business acumen.
- You coordinate activities with your team and other stakeholders effectively.
- A strong work ethic, good time management, and a positive attitude are key.
- You can multitask and shift priorities without dropping the ball.
- Experience with human capital tech platforms; specifically Workday; is important.
- You should be well informed on labor market trends and what competitors are doing.
- A solid ability to assess business challenges, support change, and develop practical solutions for your region is crucial.
- Creating presentations? Presenting them clearly to groups large or small? That’s part of it too.
The deeper competencies
The job involves solving real problems for people. We need someone who can demonstrate these things consistently:
