Ambulatory RN

About This Role

What this role actually is

This isn't your typical clinic job. Boston Children's Heart Center needs an NP who thrives on variety ; someone who can move between outpatient clinics, the Cardiac Procedural Unit, the Acute Cardiac Care Unit, and cardiology consults. You'll cover leave of absence gaps and staffing needs across all these settings. It's full time, 36 hours a week, and the schedule flexes between outpatient clinic and inpatient ACCU coverage. The inpatient side includes day/night rotation up to half the time, every third weekend, and holiday coverage (yes, major holidays too). There's some wiggle room based on what the team and clinical needs look like at any given moment.

Where you'll work

You're based out of Boston, MA, but your days will look different depending on where you're needed:

  • Ambulatory Cardiology ; outpatient care for pediatric and young adult patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. You'll do assessments, develop treatment plans, manage chronic cardiac conditions, educate families on medications and lifestyle changes, and work alongside cardiologists and multidisciplinary teams for long term follow up and care coordination.
  • Cardiac Procedural Unit (CPU) ; post procedural care after diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology procedures, cardiac surgery, and other procedures requiring anesthesia. You handle patient management, observation, and discharge.
  • Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU) ; inpatient care for pediatric and adult patients with cardiac medical conditions: congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, pre- and post heart transplant management. You'll also manage cardiac patients admitted for non cardiac issues alongside consulting services. Expect multidisciplinary rounds and a family centered, team based environment.
  • Cardiology Consults ; independently or with the Consult Attending, you'll do patient assessments, take medical histories, perform physical exams, and diagnose problems. You'll triage and care for infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. You'll develop cardiology focused assessments and plans for emergency department patients. And you'll consult across the ED, hospital floors, NICU, newborn nurseries, and even the NICUs at BWH and BI. Plus, you'll provide education to staff, patients, and families.

What you need to bring

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • A current Massachusetts NP license with PNP or FNP certification
  • At least 1 year of NP experience preferred ; but new graduates are considered if you have 2+ years of inpatient RN experience, ideally in pediatrics, cardiac, ICU, or the ED

Pay and benefits

Base pay depends on your skills, experience, education, certifications, and other job related factors. But here's the real stuff:

  • Flexible schedules
  • Affordable health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Child care and student loan subsidies
