About This Role
Job Overview
You're a designer who knows the difference between a nice looking screen and a usable product. This UI/UX Designer role, based in Boise, ID, is about making that distinction every single day. You'll work across the full design lifecycle; from sketching rough concepts on whiteboards to polishing pixel perfect prototypes. The companies you'd work for through this platform range from early stage startups to established product teams, so the types of problems you solve will shift. One project might be about streamlining a checkout flow; the next could be rethinking an entire dashboard. It's hands on, it's collaborative, and it's never the same week twice.
Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Boise, ID
- Own the end to end design process for specific features. You'll gather requirements, sketch wireframes, build high fidelity mockups, and hand off specs to developers.
- Run usability tests and synthesize feedback. Don't just watch users click around; figure out what's confusing them and iterate fast.
- Create and maintain design systems. Consistency matters. You'll document patterns, define component behavior, and make sure the product feels coherent.
- Partner with product managers and engineers early. Design isn't a delivery step; it's part of the conversation from the start. You'll push back on bad ideas and champion the user's perspective.
- Present your work to stakeholders. Yes, that includes defending design decisions with data and logic, not just "it looks better this way."
Requirements / JobXi / Boise, ID
- At least 3 years of experience in UI/UX design, with a portfolio that shows real shipped products; not just hypothetical redesigns.
- Proficiency in Figma as your primary tool. Bonus points if you know how to use variables, components, and auto layout like a pro.
- A solid grasp of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA at minimum). You design for everyone, not just people with perfect vision and fast internet.
- Experience with prototyping tools; Principle, Protopie, or similar. Static mockups only tell half the story.
- Familiarity with design handoff workflows, including tools like Zeplin or Figma Dev Mode.
- No specific degree required. We've seen brilliant designers from bootcamps, art schools, and self taught backgrounds. But if you have a degree in HCI, interaction design, or a related field, that's fine too.
What It's Like in This Role / JobXi / Boise, ID
The work environment varies because you're applying to roles through a platform; you could end up in an open plan office in Boise, ID or join a fully remote team. Either way, expect a mix of solo deep work and cross functional meetings. You'll likely be on Slack or Teams daily, with a few hours blocked for focused design time. Sprints are typically two weeks, and you'll attend standups, design critiques, and sprint planning sessions. The tools are standard: Figma, Miro for whiteboarding, and some kind of ticketing system (Jira, Linear, Notion). Workloads can spike near release deadlines, but it's generally a steady rhythm; not a constant fire drill.
