Special Education Teacher

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this role. ChanceLight is looking for an Education Program Director to run one of their special education programs in Birmingham, AL. This isn't just an admin job; you're the instructional leader on the ground, responsible for everything from student outcomes to daily operations. The salary range is $70,000 to $90,000 a year, depending on your experience.

What You'll Be Doing

You're in charge of the whole site. That means you'll lead the staff and manage all operations to create an environment where students can actually thrive. Your day to day will be a mix of big picture leadership and hands on management.

  • You’ll supervise staff, develop performance plans, and handle their professional development needs.
  • Building and keeping a strong team is key. You’ll help recruit new faculty and make sure they have the skills our students require.
  • A big part of your job is making sure everyone is safe. You’ll monitor facilities and programs for compliance with state rules and staffing ratios.
  • The managerial side involves overseeing daily school ops: schedules, custodial work, food services, transportation, budgets, and resources.
  • You’re the main contact between the site and the school districts we partner with, so building those relationships is essential.
  • From a student's initial referral to their last day, you’re involved. You’ll manage rosters, conduct tours, and contribute to transition planning.
  • Instructional leadership means observing and evaluating teaching staff to ensure they're using our materials effectively.
  • You’ll compile and analyze student assessment data to track growth and guide academic interventions.
  • Keeping perfect records is non negotiable; student progress reports, grades, report cards, IEP updates, and transcripts all need to be accurate and on time.
  • Ensuring full compliance with IEP processes, state assessments, and all company policies is on your plate.
  • Fostering a positive school culture is part of the deal. You'll implement programs for student behavior and provide academic counseling.

The Kind of Person We Need

We need someone who genuinely wants to drive change for students with special education needs. You should thrive in a collaborative setting where the goal is always a meaningful outcome. Strong problem solving skills are a must; so are compassion and dedication.

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in Education or Special Education is preferred but not mandatory if you have significant experience leading within special education settings (grades K 12).
  • A valid state teaching certificate or credential specific to Special Education instruction at either elementary or secondary levels (or both) is required before starting work here at ChanceLight Behavioral Health Therapy & Education .
