About This Role
Alright, here's the deal. I'm looking for a Cardiovascular ICU RN to take on a 13 week travel assignment in Birmingham, AL. This isn't just about filling a slot; it's about finding someone who thrives in the controlled chaos of a CVICU. If you're the kind of nurse who finds their rhythm in high acuity care and wants to do it while seeing a new part of the country, let's talk.
The Work
You'll be the primary RN for critically ill cardiovascular patients. That means you're assessing and monitoring them, catching those subtle shifts in condition before they become problems. You'll be running advanced life support equipment and administering complex medications.
- Your day involves performing and interpreting advanced hemodynamic monitoring; arterial lines, central venous pressure, pulmonary artery catheters.
- You record everything. Every condition change, every reaction, every intervention gets documented accurately and on time.
- A big part of this is communication. You're talking with providers about status changes and working closely with the entire interdisciplinary team to coordinate care.
- You also provide education and support to patients and their families about what's happening in the ICU.
- Patient safety is non negotiable. You'll follow strict infection control protocols, especially important for these immunocompromised patients.
- The job requires staying sharp. You'll maintain your skills through ongoing training and participate in quality improvement work for the unit.
What You Need to Bring
First off, you need one full year of recent experience as a CVICU RN. No exceptions there.
- A valid RN license for the state you're working in is mandatory.
- Your BLS and ACLS certifications from the AHA or ARC need to be current.
A few things that would really make you stand out? Having your Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is a huge plus. So are TNCC or NIHSS certifications.
The Practical Stuff
This is a physical job. You've got to be able to move around constantly, bend, push, pull, and handle equipment weighing between 50 and 100 pounds. You also need solid technical motor skills for procedures and using department gear.
Mentally, you're coping with frequent public contact while meeting deadlines under pressure. You can work closely with a team but also operate independently when needed. Sharp visual acuity is required for patient assessment and monitoring.

We pay our travel professionals at highly competitive rates. The benefits kick in on your very first day with us.
- You get comprehensive medical insurance, dental coverage, and vision insurance starting day one.
- $0 copay for mental health services is included in that medical plan.
- We offer life insurance and short term disability coverage.
- There's a 401(k) plan with a company match.
- Earn paid time off after you work 1560 hours.
- We reimburse you for your licensure costs and continuing education units (CEUs).
