About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Controller role. It's with a construction company that's been around for over twenty years, based out of Jackson, Georgia. They handle everything on the outside of a building; siding, roofing, windows, doors, custom millwork; for both homes and commercial projects across the Southeast.
What you'd be doing
You're the person running the financial show here. That means you're in charge of all the core operations: billing, collecting payments, applying cash to accounts, reconciling bank statements, processing payroll and accounts payable. You'll dig into variance analysis and put together the reports that tell the real story.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close. It needs to be accurate and on time.
- Your analysis will highlight trends and point out risks or opportunities we might miss otherwise.
- Making sure everything is compliant is a big part of it. We follow GAAP standards and industry regulations.
- You'll set up internal controls to protect company assets and keep our reporting honest.
- Managing audits and handling tax and licensing requirements falls to you.
- This isn't a solo act. You'll work directly with leadership and others on accounting policies and procedures.
- A key focus is monitoring costs to keep our operations efficient.
- You'll have a team under you in both accounts payable and receivable. Your job is to supervise them, help them develop their skills, and build a culture where people take ownership and look for ways to do things better.
The background we need
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or something similar is required. If you've got an MBA too? That's a strong plus.
- We need someone with 5 7 years of progressive experience in Accounting or Finance.
- At least 3 of those years should be in a leadership position where you were managing others.
The specific skills that matter here
A deep understanding of project accounting is non negotiable for this industry. You need to know revenue recognition inside out and have solid cost control practices.
- If you've managed finances for multi site operations before, that experience is highly desirable for us.
- The tools matter: proficiency with ERP systems is expected; advanced data skills are important too because your analysis drives decisions here.
The schedule & pay
The salary range for this position is $115k - $120k per year. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement; some days at the office in Jackson (or other sites), some days remote as needed for collaboration with your operational partners across Baton Rouge, LA region.
A bit more about working there
The company talks about stability and growth. They offer medical coverage; they match contributions to a 401(k) plan; paid time off is included too. The culture sounds fast paced but supportive; they mention valuing dependability and integrity.*
