About This Role
The Job
This Pharmacy Technician position is based at Georgetown University Hospital in Baltimore, MD. You'll work under a licensed pharmacist, handling the technical side of medication distribution and dispensing. It's a full time gig with rotating day and evening shifts. Everything you do here has to line up with the law, hospital policy, and whatever the pharmacist on duty says.
What You'll Actually Do
- Prepare medications for dispensing ; including narcotics ; which means selecting the right drug, labeling it, and packaging it.
- Enter medication orders into the computer system. That involves checking patient data, looking for drug allergies or duplications, calculating dose conversions, and figuring out how many doses or dosage forms are needed.
- Pick up medication orders from patient care areas at scheduled times.
- Deliver filled orders to nursing units and departments according to schedule.
- Help investigate missing dose requests when they pop up.
- Prepare parenteral admixture solutions (the IV stuff).
- Interpret medication orders for appropriate strength, route, frequency, and duration.
- Monitor stock inventory levels and expiration dates. Replenish supplies of all stock drugs and communicate what's available ; like when something is out of stock.
- Process drug charges and credits.
- Perform quality improvement activities: code carts, Pyxis checks, checking for outdated meds.
- Answer phone calls about medication orders.
- Follow guest and staff relations standards every day. And take on any other duties that fit this position or area.
What You Need
- A High School Diploma or GED is required. Some college coursework is preferred but not mandatory.
- 3 4 years of experience is preferred overall.
- More specifically: 2 4 years of hospital pharmacy experience (with IV admixture) is preferred.
- A Licensed Pharmacy Technician (LPT) registration with the D.C. Board of Pharmacy is required before you start working here.
The Pay Range
The hiring range for this role is $19.55 to $34.25 per hour in Baltimore, MD . Where you land inside that range depends on your experience and qualifications ; it's not a one size fits all number.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
The responsibilities I listed above? They're the main gig. They don't cover every single possible task that might come up in this job over time ; that list would be impossible to write. But if something fits naturally under "Pharmacy Tech duties" at Georgetown University Hospital in Baltimore, MD, consider it part of your job description too.
