About This Role
Job Overview
This CNC Machinist position is for someone who gets satisfaction from turning a digital blueprint into a precise, physical part. You'll be running and setting up CNC mills and lathes in a production shop located in Baltimore, MD. The work is hands on, technical, and essential; every piece you make has to be right.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain multi axis CNC machines (mills and lathes).
- Perform first article inspections and in process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and CMMs.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
- Troubleshoot minor program issues and make offsets to hold tight tolerances.
- Deburr and finish parts to meet specified requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow all safety protocols.
Requirements
- A solid grasp of G code programming; ability to edit at the machine is a big plus.
- At least 3 years of hands on experience in a job shop or manufacturing environment.
- A high school diploma or GED; a technical certification or apprenticeship completion is preferred.
- You need good eyesight for detailed inspection work and must be comfortable standing for most of your shift, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
What It's Like In This Role
The shop floor is active but organized. You'll typically work alongside other machinists and report directly to a shop foreman or lead. Your main tools are the CNCs themselves; think Haas or Mazak controls; alongside a full suite of precision measuring equipment. Expect a steady workflow with clear daily production goals. Overtime pops up when big orders come through.
Why You'll Like This Opportunity
The work itself offers variety; one day it might be aluminum prototypes, the next could be stainless steel production runs. There's always something new to learn as technology evolves. Many shops in Baltimore, MD promote from within for lead roles or programmer positions, so there's a real path forward if you're skilled.
