Ultrasound Technologist
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Ultrasound Tech role at St. David's North Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX. I've been placing people here for years, and they run a solid department. They need someone who knows their stuff and can handle the pace.
The Work
You're doing ultrasonic imaging across all areas; abdomen, OB/GYN, vascular, the whole spectrum. The job is to get the images the radiologists need for interpretation or intervention.
- Produce high quality diagnostic scans on patients from newborns to seniors.
- A big part of it is patient care; you need to recognize conditions essential for a successful procedure and apply that knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Follow established scanning protocols but also know when to modify positioning and technique for trauma, acute, or challenging cases when the standard approach won't work.
- Operate the ultrasound units efficiently, including the complex measurement and Doppler programs.
- You'll document what you see during the exam and relay any relevant patient history or information to the radiologist.
- Assist physicians with invasive exams and perform procedures in the OR.
- Coordinate with other departments as needed.
- Getting it all done requires organizing your workflow to meet urgent demands while completing required documentation on forms, logs, and in the computer system.
The Schedule & What You Need
The shift is Thursday through Sunday from 6:30 PM to 5:00 AM. It's a specific schedule, so you know exactly what you're getting into.
For qualifications, they're looking for one year of experience working as a diagnostic medical sonographer. Having a year as a Radiologic Technologist is a nice bonus, but it's not mandatory.
For your education, you need one of two things: either graduation from a single two year allied health program that's patient care related, OR you graduated from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE), or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) that specifically does programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography.
The Offer
The benefits package is extensive. It's designed to support health, life, career, and retirement.
- The medical coverage covers many common services with no cost or a low copay; it includes prescription drug and behavioral health coverage plus free telemedicine and free AirMed medical transportation.
- You can add dental and vision benefits.
- There's life and disability coverage available too.
- A bunch of supplemental protection plans are options: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity.
- They offer auto insurance, home insurance, identity theft protection, legal counseling, long term care coverage even moving assistance and pet insurance. It's a long list.
