About This Role
Alright, let's talk about what this actually is. This isn't a job in the traditional sense. You won't get a W 2 from us. Instead, you'd be joining Taskrabbit as an independent contractor; what we call a Tasker. You're running your own small business using our platform to find clients who need things assembled.
What the work looks like
You pick and choose assembly tasks that fit your schedule and skill level. It's all on your terms.
- Putting together furniture from brands like IKEA, Wayfair, or Amazon.
- The pieces range from simple chairs and shelves to beds, dressers, dining tables, and even outdoor sets.
- You'll use hand tools: screwdrivers, Allen keys, maybe a drill.
- The goal is a secure assembly that follows the manufacturer's instructions.
- When you're done, you clean up the workspace. Sometimes that means taking packaging materials with you.
What you need to handle it
A few practical things are necessary to get started on the platform.
- You have to be at least 18 years old.
- You need a way to get yourself to and from each client's location in Austin, TX.
- A background check is part of the registration process.
- You agree to our Global Terms of Service. That's just the rulebook for using the platform.
The day to day reality
This isn't about having a manager. It's about managing yourself and your tasks well.
- A basic toolkit is smart. Some clients might have tools, but you can't count on it.
- You're comfortable using an app on your phone to book jobs and communicate clearly with clients before and during a task.
- Following instructions carefully matters; both from the furniture manual and any specific requests from the person who hired you.
The setup (and why people do this)
The appeal here is control. You build this around your life, not the other way around.
- You set your own hourly rates for different types of tasks. You can raise them as you gain more experience and positive reviews.
- Work when you want, where you want. Accept tasks that fit into your day or week.
- Payment hits your account 3 8 business days after you submit an invoice through the app. Clients can also add tips on top of your rate.
- A steady flow of local jobs pops up in the app so there's usually something available if you're looking for work. There's also a Tasker Success Team you can reach out to with questions or for help growing what you're doing.
A quick note on experience
Previous furniture assembly experience? It helps, sure.But it isn't mandatory.If you've confidently put together your own IKEA stuff at home, that’s a solid starting point.Important: This is an independent contractor opportunity.
