About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Shift Leader spot we've got open at Torchy's in Austin, TX. This isn't about sitting in an office. It's about running the show when you're on the clock, making sure every guest leaves happy and your team has what they need to do great work. You'll be in the thick of it, from the dining area to the kitchen line.
What you'd be doing
You're leading the shift. That means you're the point person for everything that happens while you're running things. You'll handle opening or closing the restaurant, which includes being a key holder and making sure everything is secure.
- Delegating tasks to keep service smooth and efficient.
- Talking with guests, solving any problems quickly, and making sure they have a great experience.
- Helping out with training and mentoring newer team members.
- Knowing how things work both up front and in the kitchen; you'll check food quality, make sure recipes are followed, and that health standards are met.
- Managing prep levels and supporting inventory counts.
- Overseeing cash handling during your opens and closes.
- Completing all the required safety and compliance checklists.
- Handling issues as they come up with your team or guests, knowing when to step in yourself or escalate it.
The role needs someone who can adapt. Other duties pop up, so being flexible is part of the deal.
The kind of person we need
You've got to set the tone. Stay calm when it gets busy, communicate clearly with your crew, and pay attention to the details that matter; like food safety and cleanliness. It's about teamwork and building trust to get everyone working toward the same goal.
Your background
A few things are non negotiable here:
- You've supervised or led a team before, ideally in a restaurant setting.
- You understand restaurant operations, guest service, and food safety inside out.
- You have (or can get) both your state alcohol server certification and a Manager ServSafe certification. These are required.
- The schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. You need to be available for that.
- The job involves standing or walking for most of your shift. You also need to be able to lift and move items up to 40 pounds.
A few other things that would be really helpful:
- If you're bilingual in English and Spanish, that's a big plus for our team.
- Experience with training or developing other employees is great.
- A solid grasp of inventory processes or handling cash is useful too.
The good stuff
The pay range is $18.00 - $22.00 an hour based on what experience you bring. Schedules have some flexibility built in around business needs. There's real room to grow here if you want a career path; this isn't just a stopgap job.
