About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Rehab RN role at St. David's Surgical Hospital in Austin, TX. It's a full time position on the inpatient rehab unit, and you'd be the central point for coordinating patient care. You're not just following orders; you're using your assessment skills and tech to figure out what patients need, building their plan of care with the whole team, and then constantly adjusting it based on how they're doing; physically, emotionally, all of it. The goal is hitting those recovery milestones and making sure patients feel well taken care of.
What You'll Be Doing
You're the primary nurse for your patients on the rehab unit. That means you're synthesizing data from assessments and monitoring, then sharing it clearly with therapists, doctors, and other providers to keep everyone on the same page. Your day is built around refining that individual plan of care as patients progress. The unit itself is set up to support this work; it's got 20 private rooms, a dedicated therapy gym, and even a suite specifically for occupational therapy to practice daily living skills.
- Conduct physical assessments and utilize diagnostic technology to identify patient needs.
- Develop, coordinate, and continually adjust individualized plans of care in collaboration with the full healthcare team.
- Monitor each patient's overall condition; physical health, emotional state, and social needs.
- Follow established patient care standards and focus on service excellence to maintain high satisfaction.
What You Need to Bring
The must haves are pretty clear. You need to be a graduate from an accredited nursing program. Or, if you're currently enrolled in an approved Alternative Entry MSN program, that works too. They'd love it if you had a Bachelor’s degree or at least one year of experience in a Staff RN or charge nurse role, but those are preferences, not deal breakers.
- A diploma from an accredited nursing program OR current enrollment in an Alternative Entry MSN program.
- A current RN license for the state you're practicing in or an active compact license.
- If your compact license isn't from Texas: apply for a Texas RN license within 60 days of starting; get the TX license within 6 months of applying.
- BCLS certification per hospital policy (they'll clarify which specific course).
Having your ACLS certification would be a great bonus.
The Schedule & The Support
This is a full time position. You'll be part of St. David's Surgical Hospital, which is a specialty surgery center focused on orthopedics, gynecology, urology, breast surgery, and reconstructive procedures. It's connected to St. David’s North Austin Medical Center but operates as its own facility with over 45 inpatient rooms and 10 OR suites. The organization behind it all; HCA Healthcare; has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies multiple times.
Benefits & Rewards
The benefits package here is comprehensive. It’s built to support you professionally and personally.
- Medical insurance that includes prescription drug coverage; dental and vision plans are also available.
- Behavioral health services are covered; there's even telemedicine access so you can use it easily.
- A wellbeing program gives you free counseling sessions and referral services if you need them.
- Saving for retirement? They have a 401(k) Plan with matching: they'll match 100% of what you put in from 3% up to 9% of your pay (the exact match percentage depends on how long you've worked there). There's also an Employee Stock Purchase Plan available later on after hire date requirements are met..
