About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this NICU RN spot on the night shift. It's a PRN role at Saint Thomas Midtown in Austin, TX. That means the schedule is as needed; you're not locked into a set number of hours every week, but you pick up shifts when they're available and when it works for you.
What You'd Be Doing
You're the nurse for our smallest patients. You'll implement and monitor their care plans, keeping a close eye on their condition and communicating any changes. A big part of this is coordinating care; you're the main point of contact pulling together all the different specialists involved. You'll carry out physician and nursing orders, and you'll also assess what a baby might need after discharge, working with the rest of the healthcare team to plan for it.
The Must Haves (Non Negotiable)
Before we go any further, these are the absolute requirements. If something's missing here, we can't move forward.
- A current Registered Nurse license. If you're licensed in Tennessee, great. If you have a multi state compact license from your home state, that works too, but it has to be active before your start date.
- Your RN credential has to be in hand before you start.
- You need a BLS Provider certification from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. You've got 30 days from your hire or transfer date to get this one if you don't have it already.
- Two more certifications are required within 6 months (180 days) of starting: The S.T.A.B.L.E Program certification and Neonatal Resuscitation credential from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- For education, you need a diploma from an accredited nursing school or college. Or, your required professional licensure at the time of hire meets this bar.
- Finally, you need at least 2 years of recent NICU experience. This isn't just preferred; it's required for this position.
The Schedule & The Deal
This is a PRN night shift position. The specific benefits you're eligible for can depend on your scheduled hours and location. What's offered can change, so your recruiter will give you the latest details during hiring. But here’s what’s generally in the mix for associates:
- A 403(b) retirement plan.
- Well being resources like an Employee Assistance Program, counseling, peer support, spiritual care, and stress management tools.
