About This Role
Hey there. I'm a recruiter for Ascension, and I've been placing nurses for over a decade. This isn't a generic ad; it's for a specific PRN night shift position on our Med/Surg resource team in Austin, TX. You'd be floating to different units across our north and south market hospitals. It's not an easy gig, but if you're the kind of nurse who thrives on variety and autonomy, read on.
The Work
You're providing direct, hands on patient care. The catch is you'll be doing it across multiple specialty units, so adaptability isn't just nice to have; it's everything.
- Your main job is delivering high quality, compassionate care that follows all of our organizational protocols.
- You'll implement care plans and make sure physician and nursing orders are carried out accurately and on time.
- Think of yourself as the central hub. You're coordinating the patient's journey by linking communication between every discipline on the healthcare team.
- A big part of that is communicating and documenting everything: patient conditions, your observations, interventions. It's what keeps the care plan seamless.
What You Absolutely Need
No fluff here. These are the non negotiables to even get your application in the door.
- A Registered Nurse credential from the Texas Board of Nursing. You need this before your hire date or transfer date.
- A BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. You have to get this within one month (30 days) of starting.
- For education: a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing OR the required professional licensure at the time of hire.
What Would Make You Stand Out
This is a resource team role. To hit the ground running, here's what we really hope you bring.
- At least two years of recent acute care nursing experience. We need to see clinical competency with diverse, high acuity patients.
- Proof you can handle yourself in a multi unit, float, or resource team setting. Can you provide autonomous direct care while navigating different environments?
- Any advanced certifications are a plus. Think Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AHA or Red Cross.
