Mechanic

Avis Budget Group·Austin, TX

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this mechanic job in Austin, TX. It's with Avis Budget Group. I've been placing folks here for a while, and I'll be straight with you; this isn't a gig where you're stuck doing oil changes on the same model all day. You're working on their whole fleet. That means a different set of keys and a different puzzle pretty much every time you clock in.

What you'd be doing

You'd handle everything from standard maintenance to the more complicated repairs, warranty work included. Think engines, transmissions, exhaust, brakes, electrical systems, A/C, and onboard computers. The technical supervision is minimal; they're expecting you to run with it.

The fleet is diverse and newer, so you're not dealing with rust buckets. You get to apply your skills across multiple brands, which keeps things interesting.

They title this role "Master Mechanic" for a reason. Part of that means you could be the go to person in the shop for other techs who hit a snag. Sharing knowledge and best practices to keep everything running smoothly is part of the deal. Your work directly decides if a car is safe, reliable, and ready for a customer. No pressure, but it's important.

What we need from you

  • A valid driver's license is non negotiable.
  • At least three years of professional auto repair experience under your belt.
  • You need to have a minimum of 3 current ASE certifications right now. They also need you to pick up 2 more within your first year on the job.
  • Your knowledge has to cover the core ASE areas: Engine Repair, Drivetrain/Axles, Suspension/Steering, Brakes, Electrical, Heating/Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance for both light vehicles and diesel.
  • You own a complete set of tools for automotive repair and maintenance.
  • The shop gets noisy; moderate to loud noise levels are normal here. You should be comfortable with that environment.
  • Basic computer skills are required; think typing and data entry.
  • The physical side is real: lifting up to 50 pounds, constantly standing, bending, reaching, walking, sitting, kneeling. You'll be in and out of vehicles all day.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • This job is 100% on site in Austin, TX. Remote work isn't an option.

A note on experience: if you've got previous OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) experience from a dealership or similar? That's a huge plus and will definitely give you an edge.

The details & what you get

The pay starts at $24.00 per hour. There's also a shift premium that may apply depending on your schedule.

It's full time hours. The exact schedule isn't listed here; that gets sorted out during the hiring process based on shop needs.

  • You get paid weekly if you're in New York or Puerto Rico; everywhere else it's bi weekly paychecks.
  • Training happens on the job specifically for their newer fleet vehicles across different manufacturers.
  • Paid time off is part of the package.
  • They offer medical insurance and dental insurance along with some other insurance options too long to list here neatly; we can go over specifics if we talk later.
