The Job

St. David's Medical Center needs a Labor and Delivery RN for a PRN role in Austin, TX. You'll coordinate patient care from admission through discharge. It's a real chance to make a difference for families during a big moment.

What You'll Actually Do

You're the nurse who keeps things moving, keeps patients safe, and keeps families informed. Here's what that looks like day to day:

  • Conduct an admission interview when a patient arrives and document the full assessment
  • Watch for changes in the patient's condition and report them promptly to the physician or charge nurse
  • Assess what the patient and family need to know, and document the education you give at admission and throughout their stay
  • Provide psychological and social support to the patient and family ; this matters as much as the clinical stuff
  • Help with discharge planning across different departments
  • Administer medications accurately and legibly document everything
  • Keep the physician or Clinical Nurse Coordinator in the loop about any significant changes
  • Reevaluate the care plan regularly and adjust it when needed
  • Deliver nursing interventions based on the plan, and document how the patient responds

What You Need to Bring

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • A current Texas RN license or a Compact RN license (if you have a Compact license, you'll need to get your Texas license within 90 days of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's policy
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification per St. David's policy
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification per St. David's policy

About St. David's Medical Center

St. David's Medical Center is part of St. David's HealthCare and has three locations: the main medical center, Heart Hospital of Austin, and St. David's Georgetown Hospital. This spot in Central Austin is a 371 bed acute care hospital with a 64 bed rehab hospital attached. The women's services here are serious ; a Level IV maternity unit, maternal fetal medicine, and a high risk transport team. They also run the region's largest Level IV NICU. On site you'll find Solis Mammography for outpatient breast imaging, plus a 24 hour emergency department.
