GI/Endoscopy Technician

What you'll actually do

You'll work under the direction of a GI or Endoscopy Nurse, helping take care of patients during their procedures. It's hands on work with real responsibility.

• Keep the environment clean and sanitary for every patient
• Handle high level disinfection and sterilization of endoscopy equipment ; you need to know this stuff cold
• Set up the endoscopy unit before cases, making sure all the GI gear and supplies are ready to go
• Clean treatment rooms between procedures and get them prepped for the next case
• Help maintain, care for, and label specimens properly
• Identify each specimen with the surgeon and hand it off to the circulating nurse

What you need to bring

• A diploma from an accredited Surgical Technology program ; that's preferred but not required outright
• One year of acute care experience, ideally in an ambulatory surgery center setting
• A valid BCLS Certification before you start. Important: online certification won't cut it; it has to be in person training.

The schedule setup

This center serves patients Monday through Friday. Austin Endoscopy Center North handles a high volume of colonoscopies, endoscopic placements, flexible sigmoidoscopies, pH Impedance testing, infusion services, and esophageal manometry. We've been open since 2001 and carry AAAHC accreditation.
