About This Role
What you'll do as an Endoscopy RN
You're the nurse in charge of the Endoscopy suites. That means you're handling patient assessments, administering meds, and documenting everything as it happens. You get patients prepped for their procedure and make sure they understand what's coming ; both the clinical side and the emotional support side.
You'll set up all the equipment before each procedure. Afterward, you clean and sterilize it yourself. You're also monitoring patients throughout endoscopic or pain management procedures, keeping a close watch on how they're doing under anesthesia. And you need to confirm that every consent form and piece of pre procedure paperwork is complete before anything starts.
- Complete an age appropriate assessment of each patient when they arrive at the surgical suite
- Initiate the plan of care by properly preparing the patient for surgery
- Provide teaching and emotional support for surgical patients
- Assure pre procedure documentation and consent forms are fully completed
- Assist with preparation and care of the patient during anesthesia
- Continually assess and monitor the patient's condition throughout endoscopic or pain management procedures
- Set up equipment needed for procedures; clean and sterilize all equipment after each procedure
- Implement the nursing process, document nursing activities and interventions, administer medication
- Provide leadership and supervise care, maintenance, and activities within Endoscopy suites
What you need to bring
Experience:
- 1 year of Endoscopy RN experience ; this is required
Education:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Business, or Healthcare Administration is preferred; otherwise an Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program is required
Licenses & Certifications:
- A current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License ; if you hold a Compact License, you need to obtain your Texas license within 90 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy is required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy is also required
- A Certification in Gastroenterology through the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses is preferred but not mandatory at hire
