Electrician
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this electrician spot we've got open in Austin, TX. I've been placing folks with Abacus for a while now, and they run a solid shop. They're looking for someone who knows their way around a panel and can handle customers just as well as they handle wire nuts. The money's real, the work is steady, and you're treated like a person, not a number. Here's the deal.
What You'd Be Doing
You're the one showing up to get things fixed or upgraded. It's your job from start to finish.
- Handling break and repair work, troubleshooting, maintenance, and service upgrades for residential systems.
- Installing and repairing panels, circuits, breakers, lighting, switches, and outlets.
- Diagnosing electrical issues quickly and accurately.
- Your repair work needs to meet or exceed National Electrical Code standards.
- You'll keep the workspace clean and organized while you're there; leave it better than you found it.
- Offering solutions on the spot or scheduling upgrades that make sense for the customer.
- Taking before and after photos of your work.
- Following top tier safety practices without exception.
- Talking clearly with customers to explain what's happening and build trust.
The Must Haves & Nice to Haves
Let's be straight about what you need to walk in with. First thing: you gotta have an active TDLR license. That means a Residential Wireman, Journeyman, or Master Electrician card in your wallet. No exceptions on that one.
- A minimum of two years doing electrical wiring, repair, and full system troubleshooting.
- The skill to wire and terminate devices, do quality control testing, and troubleshoot effectively.
- A working knowledge of installing electrical systems in both new construction and existing homes.
- Good time management and an eye for detail help a lot here.
- You can lift at least 50 pounds on your own when needed.
- The job involves working outdoors in heat and cold, plus working safely on ladders or roofs at medium to high heights.
- You'll maintain a well groomed appearance with a clean uniform and work shoes; they provide the uniform but keeping it presentable is on you.
A couple things that aren't required but would definitely catch our eye? Strong previous work tenure; showing you stick around; and any experience with Service Titan software is a big plus. We all know how much easier the right software makes the day.
The Schedule & The Gear
This is full time, year round work. They have morning shifts, mid day shifts, and late shifts available Monday through Friday. You also need to have weekend availability when needed. You'll dispatch from home each day. They provide the truck (with a gas card and paid tolls), a cell phone, an iPad, uniforms with dry cleaning service included; they set you up right so you can focus on the work itself.
The Pay & The Perks
The compensation range they've laid out is $100k to $250k per year. That roughly translates to an hourly rate between $50/hr-$120/hr depending on your experience level and how you perform. It's serious earning potential for serious electricians who want to build something here. Beyond the paycheck:
