About This Role
The Role
This is a local driving position where you'll operate specialized vacuum trucks. You're collecting and transporting liquid and solid waste ; think industrial by products, sewage, and other materials. You report to the Operations Manager.
What You'll Actually Do
- Operate vacuum trucks and all related equipment, day in and day out
- Check the vehicle every shift and do routine maintenance to keep it running
- Drive to job sites around Austin, TX and collect waste materials
- Use the vacuum equipment to remove waste from specific areas
- Dispose of or transport collected materials to the right locations
- Inspect the truck and vacuum gear daily ; and report any mechanical issues to your supervisor
- Clean and maintain your equipment so it stays in working order
- Talk with clients professionally, answer their questions, and make sure they're satisfied
- Follow all safety protocols for waste handling and driving
- Wear the proper PPE every time you're on the job
- Keep accurate records of what you collected, how you used the truck, and any maintenance done
- Complete all required paperwork and reports
- Work with your team members and supervisors ; maybe even help train less experienced drivers
- Tackle other duties as they come up
What You Need to Bring
You need a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) with a Tanker Endorsement. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus at least one year of tanker experience. Your CDL A must be issued in the state of operation ; Texas.
You also need to meet these standards:
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years
- No more than 1 at fault accident in the last 5 years
- A clean roadside inspection history
- You'll pass a background check covering criminal history, employment history, and education
- You'll pass a drug screening and be subject to random drug tests during employment
Skills and Qualifications
You should know how to operate and troubleshoot vacuum trucks and related machinery. Good communication and customer service skills matter here. So does solid problem solving ability and attention to detail.
The Physical Part
This job has real physical demands. You'll lift and carry heavy objects like hoses, equipment, and waste materials ; up to 50 pounds or more. You need good hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate controls and connect hoses.
Stamina is key. You'll drive for extended periods and do physically demanding tasks. You'll bend, twist, and squat to access equipment, sometimes in confined spaces or on uneven terrain. You'll work in varying weather ; heat, cold, wet ; and still perform. You'll climb into and out of the truck cab and equipment areas. Good vision and hearing are necessary for safe operation and spotting equipment issues.
Schedule and Compensation
This role requires overnight shift work.
