Automotive Technician

About This Role

The Gig

Lamb's Tire & Automotive in Austin, TX needs an automotive technician who actually knows their way around a car. We're talking someone with real experience under the hood, not just textbook knowledge. If you've been doing this for a while and you're good at it, we want to talk. Pay lands between $27.00 and $45.00 per hour depending on what you bring.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Diagnosing vehicles based on your certifications and experience level
  • Working repairs listed on the Multi point Inspection or Repair Order ; accurately and efficiently
  • Tackling complex and heavy duty repairs when they come through the bay
  • Explaining technical problems to people who don't speak mechanic ; customers, store managers, service consultants
  • Recommending services that keep a customer's vehicle running right; documenting every recommendation in their file
  • Following safety procedures like they matter (because they do) and flagging concerns to the Shop Foreman or Store Manager
  • Keeping your ASE certifications current and renewing them before they expire

What You Need to Bring

Five years of automotive technician or mechanic experience minimum. That's not flexible. You also need to be comfortable using computerized diagnostic equipment ; we mean really using it, not just turning it on.

  • A valid driver's license in your pocket right now
  • Current ASE certifications are preferred but not mandatory going in
  • Available to work at least five days a week, including Saturdays ; that's part of the deal here
  • At least 18 years old (state law)

The Physical Reality of This Job

Let's not pretend this is desk work. You'll be on your feet about five hours a day standing, plus walking all over the shop floor. Expect to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly for up to ten hours daily. Full range of motion with arms and hands is non negotiable ; you'll be feeling, handling, and fingering objects all shift.

You'll lift or move up to 10 pounds routinely and up to 50 pounds pretty often. You need vision good enough to detect color differences and depth perception issues, plus hearing adequate for conversations in a noisy shop environment. The temperature varies with whatever Texas decides to throw at us ; could be extreme heat one day, cold the next.

The Working Environment Stuff Nobody Talks About Until Now

The shop has moderate to loud noise levels pretty much constantly. Dust happens. Exhaust fumes happen. Lubricants, petroleum products, vapors from solvents or caustic materials ; those are part of the day too.

What You Get Out of It

  • Paychecks every two weeks (competitive rate)
  • Tuition reimbursement if you want more schooling or certs down the line
  • Paid vacation time plus sick leave accrued as you go along
  • Six paid holidays throughout the year - actual holidays off with pay included in that count too (Christmas included)
