What This Role Is About

This is a Radiology Technologist position at Emory Health Care in Atlanta, GA. You'll operate radiologic equipment to produce x rays of the body for diagnostic purposes. It's a hands on clinical role where you perform routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscope exams. You'll also do complex radiographic procedures and provide guidance to lower level techs and students.

The work involves positioning patients, adjusting equipment to get high quality x rays, and explaining procedures clearly so people know what to expect. You'll take precautions to minimize radiation exposure for both staff and patients. That's non negotiable here. Training radiology staff and students is part of it too, along with assisting in quality assurance and improvement activities.

What You'll Actually Do Day to Day

• Set up procedure rooms with the right equipment and supplies before each exam
• Perform routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscopic procedures to produce radiologic images
• Make sure patients are properly prepared for their procedures beforehand
• Explain what's happening during the exam to reduce patient anxiety and get their cooperation ; it makes a real difference
• Keep patients and families updated on progress throughout their visit
• Anticipate potential patient crises by continually evaluating them during radiologic procedures
• Complete all aspects of patient care documentation following established charting procedures
• Use the Radiology Information System to complete procedures so billing goes through correctly
• Participate in performance improvement data collection when needed
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and let your supervisor know if something isn't working right
• Clean equipment, stock procedure rooms ; keeping things ready for the next patient is part of the deal
• Practice radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and appropriate exposure factors built into every protocol you follow
• Use personal protective equipment as required on any given shift or setting ; including respirators when needed
• May be asked to serve on a safety committee depending on where you're assigned
