About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this pharmacist opening at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA. I've been placing folks here for years. It's a real clinical generalist role, where you're in the mix with the medical teams, not stuck behind a counter. You'll be dealing with a high acuity patient population, which means the work is complex and you need to think on your feet.
What you'll do
The day to day is all about patient centered pharmaceutical care. You're reviewing profiles, processing orders, and making therapy recommendations. A big part of it is preventing and solving drug related problems; you'll consult directly with prescribers to make sure everything is safe, effective, and cost efficient.
- Proactively review and process medication orders.
- Assess and monitor drug therapy regimens; recommend modifications per protocol or institutional guidelines.
- Consult with ordering prescribers to resolve issues and document those interventions.
- Use system nomograms and evaluate medical literature for evidence based care.
- Document clinical activities, adverse drug events, and medication variances as required by policy.
- Attend medical codes when applicable to your practice area.
- Educate patients on their drug therapy, including potential side effects and proper administration.
- Help coordinate transitions of care for patients leaving the hospital.
- Oversee the work of pharmacy students and technicians to ensure compliance with regulations.
And there's an expectation to contribute beyond direct patient care. You'll participate in quality initiatives. That means getting involved in at least one medication use evaluation or improvement project each year. You might also help train other staff or precept students and residents when they're around. Some research opportunities pop up now and then, too.
The must haves
The baseline requirements are pretty clear cut. No wiggle room on these.
- A current, active Pharmacist license from the state of Georgia.
- A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association; you have 90 days from your start date to get this if you don't already have it.
The nice to haves
These aren't strict deal breakers, but they give you a serious leg up. We can waive one requirement under a specific condition.
- A year of relevant experience is preferred. So is a Pharmacy Specialty Board certification or completion of an ASHP Accredited Post Graduate Year 1 pharmacy residency program.
- Here's the kicker: if you were previously employed as a student or intern within the Emory Healthcare system itself, that one year experience preference gets waived entirely.
- If this role directly applies to your specialty practice area; like certain critical care units; you'll need to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of starting.
The physical side of things
It's classified as a medium duty role. You should be prepared for occasional lifting between 20 50 pounds. Frequently handling 11 25 pounds is part of the job. And you'll be constantly handling items up to 10 pounds throughout your shift.
The schedule & pay
$52 - $80 per hour. The exact rate depends on your experience level against their internal criteria. The position qualifies for full time benefits through Emory Healthcare. Schedules are based on departmental needs; flexibility is expected for nights, weekends, holidays, and on call rotations as required by your assigned area. Candidates must pass a pre employment drug screen for substances not prescribed by a physician. Covid 19 vaccination or an approved exemption is required for employment. Candidates will undergo an occupational health screening as part of the pre employment process. A background check is also part of the hiring process.
