What you'll do at Emory Health Care
As a Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist in our Blood Bank & Transfusion Service, you'll perform various laboratory tests and procedures on patient specimens. You'll follow standard operating procedures to help diagnose, study, treat, or prevent disease. That might include standardized and semi routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, or serological tests ; all in a research or clinical lab setting.
In more complex cases, you'll evaluate all the information and decide whether test results get released, repeated, or sent to a pathologist. You'll refer abnormal or unexpected results to the appropriate person.
- Serve as key operator when new equipment and procedures come in
- Serve on the lab's safety committee; write and maintain safety and infection control policies; make sure Safety Data Sheets stay current
- Teach medical technology theory and techniques to lower level technologists; develop teaching plans and student assessment tools; prepare written exams
- Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture to collect blood specimens
- Handle other related duties as they come up
Schedules available in Atlanta, GA
The shifts here rotate weekends and holidays ; here are your options:
- 5:30am - 4pm
- 7am - 5:30pm
- 12pm - 10:30pm
- 2:30pm - 1:00am
- 8pm - 6:30am
What you need to qualify
This role requires Blood Bank specific experience and a bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (or a chemical, physical, or biological science). If your degree is in something else but you graduated from an accredited school with science and math coursework that meets certifying agency requirements? That works too.
The bachelor's degree can be waived if you're a medical technologist who was ASCP certified before that requirement existed ; or if you're a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
