The Role
This Interventional Radiology Technologist position is at Emory Health Care in Atlanta, GA. It's a role for someone who wants real responsibility in the interventional suite and operating room. You'll be working with both diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures, providing direct patient care throughout each case.
What You'll Actually Do
- Prepare patients for procedures using proper sterile technique.
- Operate imaging and specialty equipment while staying current on medical devices.
- Perform multiple diagnostic procedures in the right sequence without delay.
- Minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff ; that's non negotiable.
- Communicate patient needs and responses clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Document everything completely and accurately regarding patient care.
- Assist with patient and family education during procedures.
- Help train radiology staff and students when needed.
- Support research activities as they come up.
What You Need to Bring
You must be a graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology. Beyond that, you need at least two years of experience total with one year specifically in interventional radiology. BLS certification is required. Advanced certification in Vascular Interventional (VI) Radiography? That's preferred but not mandatory. All levels of experience and education will be considered for this posting ; so don't count yourself out if you're close to these numbers.
The Physical Reality
This work is classified as medium physical demand. Expect to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, carry objects up to 25 pounds, and spend most of your day standing or walking. There's also sitting sometimes along with close eye work on computers. Physical demands shift depending on your assigned area for any given day.
The Environment Stuff
The environment around here varies by work area too. You'll encounter blood borne pathogens, bio hazardous waste, chemicals or fumes, communicable diseases, electrical shock risks, hot or cold temperatures, latex, radiation, shift work ; possibly all in one week. Personal protective equipment including respirators is standard use. Travel might be required every now and then.
