About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this one. I'm helping a client fill a big seat: Vice President and Controller for a major global construction firm. They're the kind of company that builds the massive, mission critical data centers you read about. It's a serious leadership role, reporting to the SVP of Accounting and working hand in hand with the CFO.
The Role
You'd be running the show for their financial infrastructure. That means building up the accounting team and setting the strategic direction for how money moves on these complex, multi million dollar projects.
- You're in charge of the entire accounting organization. Mentoring that team and driving a culture of accountability is central to the job.
- Your day to day revolves around project financials: job costing, contract compliance, revenue recognition, and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting.
- A big part of the strategy is implementing and optimizing their systems. They use Procore and NetSuite, so you'll be leveraging those to automate processes and get clearer financial visibility across all their divisions.
- On the operational side, you'll manage forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow specifically for these large scale construction programs.
- Ensuring billing accuracy and leading revenue recognition efforts will be a constant focus, working directly with project accountants.
- This isn't a siloed finance role. You'll be collaborating constantly with operations, procurement, and project management teams to make sure everything aligns financially.
What You Need to Bring
They're looking for a seasoned pro who knows construction finance inside and out.
- A minimum of seven years in progressive financial leadership roles within construction accounting is non negotiable.
- You need to have built and led high performing teams before. This isn't your first time running a department.
- A deep, practical understanding of GAAP as it applies to construction is essential. That means real expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition for long term projects.
- A CPA certification is required.
- Hands on experience with Procore is required. Experience with NetSuite is strongly preferred; you'll be living in these systems.
- The environment is fast paced and growing quickly. You need to be comfortable leading through change and can handle that pressure.
The Details & Why It's Interesting
The official headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia, but they're providing relocation assistance if you need it. And they have remote flexibility for candidates based in Chicago, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; or Birmingham, Alabama.
It's a chance to have a global impact on financial operations for data center projects across the U.S. and internationally. You'd be stepping into a strategic partnership with top executives to shape the company's entire construction finance strategy during a major growth phase.
