Hiring an Outpatient Surgery Charge RN – Atlanta, GA
Emory Healthcare wants someone who knows the operating room and endoscopy inside out. This Charge RN role at our Ambulatory Surgery Center at Spivey Station is for a nurse who can lead, teach, and keep things running smoothly. You will not just manage a shift; you will shape how care happens every day.
What you will actually do
You'll plan, coordinate, and direct daily operations in the Operating Room. That means supervising staff, keeping communication open between OR, Interventional Radiology, and Endoscopy, and making sure patients and their families get optimal care. You will scrub ENT surgical cases yourself when needed.
- Function as charge nurse on a routine basis
- Supervise staff and facilitate communication across departments
- Address escalated patient issues; refer to Unit Director or Patient Advocate when you cannot resolve them
- Monitor issues and track their resolution
- Tackle customer concerns and complaints with appropriate follow up to risk management and the Unit Director
- Counsel employees on attendance, performance issues ; including verbal warnings when necessary
- Serve as arbitrator in conflicts between nursing staff; correct unacceptable communication or behavior directly
- Coordinate unit staffing to meet patient needs each day
- Identify one managerial problem per defined period and initiate a test of change to improve it
- Prepare for regulatory agency reviews actively
- Assist with budget planning, cost containment ideas, maintaining unit staffing schedules, and flagging concerns for the Unit Director
- Complete employee conferences, risk management reports, and unit management reports on time ; every time they are due
- Review operational forms regularly; revise them if they are not working effectively
- Provide resources within the unit so that patients get optimal outcomes
- A great deal of this job is modeling good habits: show colleagues how to delegate using the Synergy model for care
- Mentor newer nurses stepping into charge nurse roles themselves
- Takes a leadership role in building a culture of open candid communication
- Conduct management oriented inservices like time management workshops or team building sessions
