About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this RN position on the Neurology unit at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
There's a sign on bonus on the table for eligible candidates, and relocation assistance is also available. I know that stuff matters.
The Work
You're providing care for neurology patients. Your day is built around assessing their condition each shift, performing ordered procedures and monitoring, and administering medications while watching for how they respond. A big part of the job is education; you'll be explaining conditions, treatment plans, and medications to patients and their families in a way that makes sense, cutting through the medical jargon.
It's about being attentive. You're responding to requests, but also anticipating what a patient might need before they have to ask. You're documenting everything thoroughly and on time. And you're collaborating with providers and the rest of the care team to make sure it all comes together.
What You Need to Bring
- A current Registered Nurse license.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- You need to obtain your Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within your first 30 days if you don't have it already.
- The same 30 day window applies for getting certified in the NIH Stroke Scale.
The Schedule & Pay
This is a full time position. The specific shift pattern isn't listed here, so we can discuss those details during the interview process based on unit needs.
Why Mission Hospital?
Look, the benefits package is substantial. It's one of the more comprehensive ones I've seen. Here’s some of what they offer:
- Health & Wellness: Medical plans cover a lot upfront with low copays, and include prescription drug and behavioral health coverage. There's free telemedicine and even free AirMed medical transport. You can add dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. They also have a bunch of supplemental protection plans for accidents or critical illness.
- Financial: The 401(k) plan matches 100% of what you put in, from 3% up to 9% of your pay depending on how long you've been there. There's an Employee Stock Purchase Plan where you can buy HCA stock at a 10% discount. They offer education assistance for tuition or certifications, and help with student loans.
- Life Stuff: Really interesting support like fertility and family building benefits through Progyny, plus adoption assistance. Referral services for finding child or elder care, pet care, even home repair help. There's legal counseling, pet insurance, identity theft protection… it’s a long list.
- Time Off: Their Time Away From Work Program bundles paid time off, paid family leave, and short/long term disability coverage.
- A Voice: They emphasize that nurses have avenues to be heard through professional practice councils, advisory groups, and surveys.
A Bit About Mission Hospital
The hospital itself has a serious reputation. It’s their flagship facility with over 800 beds. For four years running (2020 2023), Healthgrades named it one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals. They consistently rank in the top 1% nationally for clinical quality year over year. Leapfrog also gave them an "A" grade for hospital safety. That’s not just fluff; it tells you about the environment and standards they work under.
