Physical Therapist

MedStar Health·Arlington, VA

About This Role

About the Job

MedStar Health needs a Physical Therapist at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in Arlington, VA. You'd be providing the full scope of therapy services, from initial screening and evaluation all the way through to discharge planning. It also means participating in program development and helping your team hit its goals.

This is with one of the biggest health systems around here, and they've been called one of the "Healthiest Maryland Businesses."

What You'll Do

  • Conduct evaluations. You'll review patient history, perform assessments, determine recommendations, and document everything.
  • Explain your findings and the treatment plan to patients and their families. You're expected to include them when setting goals.
  • Implement treatment protocols based on your evaluation, how the patient is doing, and current healthcare standards.
  • Consult with other healthcare pros when you need to.
  • Spot changes in a patient's condition that mean you should adjust the care plan or seek a medical consultation. You have to document those changes.
  • Handle discharge planning and arrange follow up care.
  • Your documentation needs to be accurate and timely. It has to paint a clear picture of the patient's entire course of care: the initial evaluation and plan, daily notes, progress summaries, and the final discharge evaluation. You're also responsible for corresponding charges.
  • Manage your time well to meet productivity expectations.
  • Keep your schedule accurate.
  • A big part of this is helping patients get access to care without friction. That requires flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and showing empathy in how you act.
  • Pursue continuing education on your own initiative. It's for your growth and to maintain competency for both you and the organization.
  • The role includes serving as a clinical instructor for assigned students.
  • You'll help orient and mentor new staff members, students, volunteers, and technicians.

What You Need

  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy.
  • The relevant state license: Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia licensure is required based on where you'll be working.
  • A current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
