Job Overview
This Nuclear Medicine Technologist position involves performing diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures using radioactive materials. You'll operate gamma cameras and PET/CT scanners, prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, and ensure patient safety throughout the process. The role is based in a clinical setting within the Arlington, VA area.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform a range of nuclear medicine scans including cardiac stress tests, bone scans, and oncologic PET/CT studies.
- Calculate and measure radiopharmaceutical doses for patient administration, adhering to ALARA principles.
- Directly interact with patients to explain procedures, obtain histories, and provide reassurance during imaging.
- Maintain detailed records of radiopharmaceutical usage, patient data, and quality control for imaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues with cameras and dose calibrators to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- Current ARRT(N) or NMTCB certification is mandatory.
- A state license to handle radioactive materials in Arlington, VA is required.
- Experience with both SPECT/CT and PET/CT technology is a strong plus.
- The job involves standing for long periods, lifting patients occasionally, and wearing protective lead apparel.
- You need a calm demeanor to work effectively with patients who may be anxious or in pain.
