About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this role. It's for a General Manager to run one of our transit operations in Anchorage, AK. This isn't an entry level spot; you're the person who makes sure everything from the buses to the budget runs right. You'll be dealing with the client, your team, union matters, and a mountain of operational details every single day. If you've been doing this for a while and know how to steer a complex contract toward its targets, I want to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

You're in charge of the whole location. That means leading the team there and making sure we hit our annual goals for that contract.

  • Run the daily operation so it follows both the client's rules and our company procedures.
  • Build and maintain a good relationship with our client through direct contact and community outreach.
  • You're responsible for hiring, training, and developing your location's staff.
  • Keep open lines of communication with your team and our support staff.
  • Manage the vehicle maintenance plan so we have enough buses ready to meet service demands.
  • Oversee all safety and training programs to stay compliant with company, contract, and government regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits of each department.
  • Review key performance numbers daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Monitor financial metrics closely. If something's off track, you report it and build a plan to fix it so we meet our financial, safety, and operational goals.
  • Make sure company policies are implemented and followed.
  • Work with labor committees on policy and procedure updates.
  • Be involved in labor union and employee relations activities for your location(s).
  • Provide information and insight to help secure contract renewals.
  • Develop and present the annual budget for your location(s).

The experience you need

A college degree is great, but equivalent business management experience works too. The real requirement is deep transit ops knowledge.

  • A minimum of five years in transit operations management is required.
  • A combined total of at least seven years in management or supervision within a Fixed Route or Shuttle bus environment.
  • You need hands on knowledge of routing and scheduling software used in that setting.
  • Direct experience with labor union negotiations and managing related expenses is mandatory.
  • A complete understanding of dispatch operations, driver scheduling, driver recruitment strategies, and DOT/FTA safety compliance is essential.

The skills that help you do it

The job requires juggling a lot of moving parts. These are the tools you'll use most often:

Proficiency in MS Office is necessary. You'll also need solid analytical skills to dig into those metrics I mentioned. Clear writing helps when reporting up or documenting plans; clear speaking matters when dealing with your team or the client. And frankly, you've got to be excellent at multitasking; this role doesn't come with a slow day very often.Be ready for other duties that might pop up based on the specific requirements of this contract.
