About This Role
The Role
This is a Behavioral Health Technician role with Medical Group Alaska, supporting a federal government contract. You're not doing long term therapy here. It's solution focused, non medical counseling ; helping people handle stress, navigate life transitions like relocations or school changes, and build better communication skills. You'll work out of an in clinic environment or community based settings in Anchorage, AK. The work is preventive and goal oriented, designed to strengthen resilience and overall well being.
Appointments range from 1 to 12 sessions per person. You'll also conduct outreach activities, lead psychoeducational briefings, workshops, and group discussions. When someone's needs go beyond non medical counseling, you'll assess and refer them to the right medical, clinical, or community resources.
What You'll Actually Do
- Deliver face to face, non medical counseling services to eligible participants following contract requirements
- Provide brief, solution focused interventions for life transitions: relocation, school changes, deployment related adjustments, family stressors
- Conduct outreach, psychoeducational briefings, workshops, and group discussions
- Assess participant needs and make appropriate referrals when issues go beyond non medical counseling
- Keep accurate, timely documentation that meets contract standards and reporting requirements
- Maintain a visible, professional presence at assigned government or community sites
- Identify program trends, systemic concerns, and service delivery issues ; then communicate them to program leadership
- Take part in required training, quality assurance activities, and professional development under contract standards
What You Need
- Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health discipline
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Current, active, unrestricted, and independent clinical license in good standing issued by a U.S. state, DC, or a U.S. territory ; LCSW, LPC/LPCC, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist
- Your license must meet all applicable state practice requirements and scope of practice standards
- U.S. citizenship (it's required for federal contract compliance)
- Ability to pass all required background investigations and meet credentialing requirements ; including verification of licensure, certifications, education, work history, and payer specific documentation
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Services happen in a mix of indoor and outdoor settings: government facilities, offices, and community locations. You may need to walk extended distances, navigate stairs or uneven terrain, and work in varying weather conditions. If you're serving children, expect extended periods sitting on the floor. You'll need to meet the physical and environmental demands that come with community based service delivery.
Compliance & Professional Standards
You'll follow federal contract guidelines, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements. Professional boundaries matter here ; you'll operate within a defined scope of non medical counseling services. You need to work independently while representing the contracting organization in a professional way.
