About This Role
Job Overview
Radiation Therapists play a central role in cancer care. You’ll operate complex linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation treatments, working directly with patients who often feel anxious or vulnerable. It’s technically demanding and emotionally meaningful work. In Amarillo, TX, you might find yourself in either a large hospital system or a dedicated outpatient cancer center ; both environments require sharp focus and real empathy. Each day brings a mix of patient setup, treatment delivery, and collaboration with the wider oncology team.
Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Amarillo, TX
- Deliver daily radiation treatments. You’ll position patients accurately on the treatment table, align them using laser systems and skin marks, then operate the linear accelerator to deliver the prescribed dose.
- Review and verify treatment plans. Before each session, check that the patient ID, field parameters, and dose calculations match what’s in the system ; it’s non negotiable for safety.
- Take portal images or CBCT scans. Image guidance is routine now. You’ll match those images to the planning CT to confirm anatomical alignment before treating.
- Provide patient support during sessions. Some people are calm; others are terrified. Your job is to explain what happens next in plain terms while managing their physical comfort on the table.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues. The machines are finicky at times. Minor alarms or beam interruptions need quick assessment ; you escalate what you can't fix yourself.
Requirements / JobXi / Amarillo, TX
- ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy (R.T.(T)). Most employers require this plus current state licensure where applicable in Amarillo, TX.
- A graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program. That's typically an associate's or bachelor's degree with clinical rotations completed successfully.
- The ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weight (up to 30 lbs). You're on your feet most of the shift, helping patients transfer from wheelchairs or stretchers onto the table.
- Spatial awareness and manual dexterity for precise alignments. Getting millimeter level accuracy matters every single time you set up a field edge or adjust collimator rotation by hand.
