Registered Nurse

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this PRN RN role in the Interventional Radiology Unit at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. It's a position where you're directly involved in patient care before and after procedures, and you need to be ready for a bit of everything.

The Work

You'll be the nurse assisting radiology RNs and physicians. Your main focus is on patient care activities and the non professional services that keep things running smoothly for everyone in IRU and radiology.

That means you're assessing patients from every angle; physical condition, nutrition, emotional state, cultural needs, you name it. You'll help with interventional cases, which includes administering sedation analgesia. A big part of the job is implementing the care plan: taking vitals, helping with comfort and hygiene, making sure nutritional needs are met, and keeping accurate records of intake and output.

You keep the patient's immediate space clean and safe. If a patient reports pain, you communicate that immediately. You're the link, keeping the staff RN or physician updated on the patient's condition, how they're responding to care, and any concerns they voice.

  • Meeting all physical needs in a timely manner is central.
  • You'll assist patients moving in and out of bed and help reposition them to prevent skin injuries; safe body mechanics are a must.
  • Starting I.V.s is part of it.
  • You'll do pain assessments.
  • There's daily equipment QC to complete, along with temperature logs.
  • Maintaining complete and accurate patient records is non negotiable; you'll create charts and schedule various procedures.
  • The role also involves ordering supplies, stocking them, and keeping educational records showing you've attended all required programs.

What You Need to Bring

The certifications are specific here. You need to secure them within strict timelines after your start date.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within your first 30 days on the job.
  • A PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification is required, but you have longer; it must be obtained within 60 months (5 years) of starting.
  • Your nursing credential can be a Registered Nurse Diploma, or you can come in as a Graduate Nurse (GN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
