Safety Specialist

Johnson ControlsยทAlbuquerque, NM

About This Role

The Job

Johnson Controls is hiring a Safety Specialist for a role based in Albuquerque, NM. This isn't a standard corporate safety desk job. You'll be out in the field, working with real people on real projects, making sure everyone goes home in the same shape they showed up. If you take safety seriously but don't take yourself too seriously, this might be the right fit.

What You Will Actually Do

You won't be stuck behind a computer all day. The day to day here is hands on and varied. Your work will include:

  • Developing and implementing safety programs and policies that actually make sense for the work being done.
  • Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards before they become problems.
  • Investigating incidents and near misses to find root causes, not just to fill out paperwork.
  • Delivering safety training to employees and contractors on everything from lockout/tagout to walking working surfaces.
  • Collaborating with project teams to build safety into the planning process from day one.
  • Maintaining records and reports on safety metrics, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, company policies, and all applicable regulations.

What You Need to Bring

  • At least two years of experience in a safety role, construction safety, or an industrial setting.
  • A bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and general industry safety practices.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and safety data sheets.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills. You'll be writing reports and talking to crews.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

What Would Make You Stand Out

  • Certifications like CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST.
  • Experience working in the construction or building automation industry.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The hiring range for this position is $74,800 to $116,000 per year. Exact pay depends on your education, experience, and where you sit relative to market data. This role also qualifies for a Sales Commission Plan based on project, quarterly, and annual margin performance.

Benefits start on day one. You get medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a 401K plan. Vacation is 15 days in your first year, along with paid holidays and sick time. You'll also get a company vehicle. For full benefit details, go to the Employee Benefits tab at careers.johnsoncontrols.com.
