About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job at Dollar General in Akron, OH. It's a store role where you're basically the go to person when the manager isn't around. You'll run the register, handle the truck, keep the shelves full, and make sure customers are taken care of. It's a hands on position where you're moving all shift.
What you'd be doing
A typical day mixes a bunch of different tasks to keep the store running smoothly. You won't get bored.
- Unload delivery trucks and unpack everything that comes in.
- Stock shelves, rotate products so the older stuff sells first, and build displays.
- You're on register duty: scanning items, bagging purchases, handling cash, and making change.
- Help customers find what they're looking for.
- General upkeep is part of it too. That means bailing cardboard, taking out trash, mopping floors, and cleaning the restroom and stockroom.
- Greet people when they walk in and help keep the front end tidy.
When the manager's out
This is the lead part of the job. If the Store Manager or Assistant Manager isn't there, you'd step up. The Area Manager would give you direction.
- You'd authorize refunds and sign off on register overrides.
- Counting down the registers at the end of a shift and preparing bank deposits falls to you.
- It involves monitoring cash levels in drawers and pulling money as needed.
- Supplying cashiers with change is your responsibility.
- You'll help enforce cash handling rules and safety practices.
- If the store has them, you'd keep an eye on security cameras for anything unusual.
- There's paperwork to complete, following company guidelines and deadlines.
The kind of person we need
You don't need a fancy degree, but you do need to be reliable and good with people. A little experience leading others goes a long way here.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Six months of supervisory experience is preferred. If you don't have that exact title, related training or experience counts too.
- You've got to be comfortable with basic math; adding, subtracting, percentages; for cash handling and inventory.
- Knowing how to handle cash securely is important; think drawer accountability and deposit controls.
- You can learn our systems quickly; we'll train you on the IBM register functions.
- A clear understanding of safety policies keeps everyone secure.
- The ability to read plan o-grams (those shelf layout guides) helps keep everything in its place.
- Finally, just be good with people. Clear communication makes everything work better for the team and our customers.
